  • What happened to Luis de la Rosa
  • Why he mattered to animation fans
  • How the industry is reacting

We just saw some devastating news coming out of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The incredibly talented Luis de la Rosa has passed away after an accident in France.

You might recognize his name from some of the biggest animated hits in recent years. He put his heart into Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and My Little Pony: The Movie.

His aesthetic was truly something special. He had a way of blending vibrant, popping colors with movement that felt alive. It was raw. It was electric.

The loss of a creator in their 30s is just impossible to process. We are sending so much love to his family and his friends in the animation community right now.

Our Take

It’s hard to talk about cinema when a light like his goes out so soon. If you need a distraction from the heavy news, you might want to look at 7 Times Pankaj Tripathi Stole the Show, or catch up on why Munna Bhai 3 is on pause. We’ll be keeping an eye on things, but for now, let’s just remember his art.
