We just heard some news that had us yelling ‘Whoa!’ across the office. Seriously. Remember Keanu Reeves? Of course, you do! Well, he’s apparently jumped into a brand new Japanese stop-motion feature called ‘Hidari’.
And get this, it all started with him just watching a pilot film. That’s it! His team was so impressed. They got back to the filmmakers about a week later. A week! Then, boom, a Zoom call was set up.
Director Kawamura Masashi shared all the cool details at the Tokyo International Film Festival. He confirmed Keanu’s involvement. That’s big news for a project like this.
Imagine samurai, but in that super cool, detailed stop-motion style. Think vibrant colors and incredible artistry. The whole aesthetic sounds like something straight out of a beautiful dream, or maybe a really awesome video game cutscene. It’s got that unique, handcrafted feel you just can’t get enough of.
And it’s not just Keanu who’s buzzing about ‘Hidari’. Even S.S. Rajamouli, the genius behind those epic, larger-than-life movies, wanted to know how they were making it! When a director like that is curious, you know something truly special is brewing.
Kawamura also gave an update on the film’s fundraising push. Getting a project with such amazing visual ambitions off the ground takes a lot. But with Keanu on board, things must be looking up!

Our Take
We’re beyond excited for this. Keanu Reeves in a stop-motion samurai epic? It’s a match made in cinematic heaven! The visual potential alone has us glued to our screens waiting for more. This kind of raw, artistic vision is exactly what we love to see.
We can’t wait to see the final look. The textures. The dynamic action sequences. It just sounds so cool. What a time for film!
