  • What’s the Freedom 250 concert series?
  • Why did Bret Michaels drop out?
  • What does this mean for the Great American State Fair?

We just saw some pretty big news hit our feeds! Bret Michaels, the rock icon and former ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ winner, is pulling out of the Freedom 250 concert series in D.C.

Yup. The Poison frontman is the latest artist to drop from the lineup for what’s supposed to be a massive celebration of America’s 250th birthday. It’s happening during the ‘Great American State Fair,’ billed as a “World Fair-style celebration.”

This isn’t the first time an act has walked away from the event. Many others have already said ‘no thanks’ to the whole vibe. We imagine the organizers are scrambling to rejig the posters now. It must feel like trying to paint over a giant, bold mural with a tiny brush, changing the aesthetic of the entire show.

Michaels shared his reasons, echoing what a lot of other performers have said. It seems like a lot of folks are rethinking their commitment to the stage. It’s a tough spot to be in when you’re planning a huge festival, only to have acts start to peel off.

Remember when Varun Dhawan’s big release hit a legal wall? Or how Anu Mallik had to defend Varun Dhawan from trolls? Sometimes things just don’t go as planned in the entertainment world, even for big names.

Our Take

It’s a tricky situation for everyone involved. Planning something so grand in D.C. always comes with extra scrutiny. Performers often have to balance their art with public perception.

We think this whole situation shows how much thought goes into every single stage appearance. What a spectacle it could have been! But sometimes, less is more, or perhaps, different is better.
