Udta Teer Takes a Dive on Day 1! What Gives, Ayushmann?

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in a promotional still from Udta Teer.
  • Ayushmann Khurrana’s new movie numbers are in.
  • Did good reviews *not* help the box office on Day 1?
  • Why we think audiences might still show up.

We just saw the box office numbers for Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s new movie, Udta Teer. And… well, Day 1 was a bit of a surprise.

The film, which everyone thought would fly high, only collected less than 5 crore rupees. That’s a slow start, folks. Especially for a star like Ayushmann.

Here’s the kicker: the reviews for Udta Teer have been pretty good! Usually, good reviews mean people rush to the theaters. Not this time, it seems. We wonder if the initial *vibe* from the trailers just didn’t click universally, even if critics loved the deeper story. Sometimes the visual style can take a moment to sink in, right?

But hold on! The buzz is that things might pick up today, on Day 2. We’re crossing our fingers. Maybe it’s a word-of-mouth kind of movie. Sometimes those take a beat to really get going.

Our Take

It’s always interesting to watch how a film performs. You can have great performances and a unique visual style, but sometimes the audience needs a little nudge. Or maybe it’s competing with other big films? We’re hearing a lot about Ramayana on the Big Screen, which could be soaking up some of that movie talk. Either way, we hope Udta Teer finds its wings. It shows that even with good art, getting people to show up can be tricky! That’s something our founders, Sucheta and Arti, would totally get.
