Spider-Man Almost Lost His Crown to an Old-School Hero!

  • Who won the weekend’s movie fight?
  • How much money did everyone make?
  • Universal Pictures made a big international splash!

You won’t believe what almost happened at the global box office this weekend! In the deepest part of summer, a legendary warrior came super close to kicking our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man off the top spot. Odysseus, that crusty old hero from ancient tales, was ready for a fight.

He truly tried to throw Spidey off the global weekend throne. Almost did it! But the web-slinger had the upper hand. Just barely.

Spider-Man pulled in a fantastic $66.2 million. Odysseus? A very close $62.9 million. Phew! That was a nail-biter. This whole showdown had a really cool ‘ancient vs. modern’ vibe, visually speaking. Like a classic painting clashing with a vibrant comic book panel.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still swinging high. This was its fifth weekend out there. It’s now grabbed a whopping $2.33 billion worldwide. That’s a lot of movie tickets!

Of that huge sum, $1.44 billion came from international fans. And $891.5 million from folks watching at home. Spidey is truly a global superstar.

And a quick shout-out to Universal Pictures! They just hit a massive milestone. They’re the first studio this year to cross $3 billion overseas. Amazing! They’re really crushing it on the international scene.

Our Take

This box office battle was seriously exciting! It just goes to show how much we all love a great story, no matter if it’s from today or thousands of years ago. We think the visual contrast between Spidey’s sleek, modern costume and Odysseus’s more rugged, historical look really created a fun aesthetic tension this weekend. It was a clash of eras, and it made for great entertainment!
