The Sand Is Slipping Away: Broadway’s Beaches Is Closing Early
- The musical is saying goodbye.
- Why the Tony snub hurt.
- When you can catch the final show.
We just saw the news that the Broadway musical Beaches is packing up its bags. It is a tough break for the cast.
The show was based on the 1988 classic movie. We really loved the aesthetic of the production. The cool blues and soft, sandy palettes brought that nostalgic coastal vibe right to the stage.
Sadly, the Tony Award nominations did not go their way. After being shut out, the producers decided it was time to move on. The last performance is set for May 24.
Jessica Vosk and Kelli Barrett gave it their all. It is always a shame to see such hard work end early. If you want to see it, grab your tickets now before the tide goes out for good.
Our Take
Broadway can be a brutal place. Sometimes a beautiful story just doesn’t connect with the voters, even if it looks great on stage. We are still curious about other big screen adaptations, like a potential Rick and Morty movie or the latest from Park Chan-Wook. For more celebrity news, check out this story on Nicole Richie.
