OMG! A Major ‘Widow’s Bay’ Character Almost Didn’t Make It!

Creator Katie Dippold speaking on a stage at Comic-Con.
  • What’s Inside:
  • The surprise character!
  • Why they almost didn’t make the cut.
  • What the creator said about it.

Okay, you guys, we’ve got some juicy insider info from the ‘Widow’s Bay’ creator, Katie Dippold! She was spilling the tea at San Diego Comic-Con, and guess what? One of our favorite characters was almost a no-show!

Yup, we’re talking about Wyck, played by the amazing Stephen Root. Dippold revealed that this character wasn’t even in the very first script for the pilot episode. Can you even imagine ‘Widow’s Bay’ without him? We can’t!

She said it started out as a simple idea, almost like a test run. And Wyck just wasn’t part of that initial sketch. Dippold was so serious about it, she even joked about wanting to “burn every copy” of that early script. Talk about a close call!

It makes you think about how shows can change and grow, right? Sometimes, the characters that become so important to the whole vibe of a show weren’t even planned from the start. It’s like finding a hidden gem. The whole aesthetic of ‘Widow’s Bay’ feels so complete, and Wyck is a big part of that!

This definitely makes us appreciate the final product even more. It’s a reminder that things don’t always start out perfect, but they can turn into something amazing.

Our Take

We love hearing these behind-the-scenes tidbits! It’s proof that even the best ideas need a little tweaking and sometimes, a character you can’t imagine the show without almost never made it on screen. Super interesting stuff!
