Oh No! Wayne Brady Out of Play, But Ato Blankson-Wood Steps In!
- Wayne Brady’s voice needs a break.
- Ato Blankson-Wood is taking over.
- The show must go on!
We just heard some news that made us gasp a little. Our favorite funny guy, Wayne Brady, has to step away from the Off-Broadway show Ms. Blakk For President. It’s really tough for him, and we feel for him. He’s heartbroken about it, and who wouldn’t be?
Turns out, Wayne has a vocal polyp. Yikes! His doctor said he needs complete vocal rest. Imagine trying to perform without your voice – not fun at all. It’s a bummer for sure, especially when you’re so ready to get on stage.
But hey, the show has to go on! The producers found a super talented replacement. Tony Award nominee Ato Blankson-Wood is stepping into Wayne’s role as Terence Alan Smith, who also goes by Joan Jett Blakk. We can already picture the cool, maybe a little bit edgy, aesthetic this show is going for with that character name.
Ato is amazing, so we know he’ll do a fantastic job. It’s a shame Wayne can’t be there, but we’re excited to see Ato shine. This just proves that even when things go wrong, there’s always a way to keep the art alive.
Our Take
It’s a tough situation when an artist has to pull out of a show. We’re sending all our best wishes to Wayne for a speedy recovery. We hope his voice heals up quickly so he can get back to doing what he does best! And to Ato, break a leg! We’re sure you’ll bring your A-game.
