Netflix, our streaming buddy, made a super big splash. They just grabbed the rights to a brand-new animated movie called “In Waves.” This is their first huge deal from the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Wow!
“In Waves” was a standout opener at Critics Week. It’s a romance, an animated one, and it sounds absolutely beautiful. We hear it’s based on AJ Dungo’s amazing graphic memoir from 2019.
Think about that. A graphic memoir. The visuals are going to be stunning, right? We’re picturing a unique artistic vibe, maybe deep, thoughtful colors telling a heartfelt story. It’s directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen, and guess who’s leading the voice cast? The incredible, Oscar-nominated Stephanie Hsu! We love her. She’s just so good in everything.
