Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions Makes Cuts
- Staff cuts at Monkeypaw Productions
- How many people are left on the team
- The changing vibe in Hollywood
We just saw the news about Jordan Peele’s studio. Monkeypaw Productions is making some big changes. They just pinkslipped three staffers from their development team. It’s a bit of a shock.
It’s hard. It’s quiet. This is actually the second time they’ve done this in a year. Now, only four people are left to look at new movie scripts. They are still taking material, but the room is getting smaller.
Hollywood feels like it’s in the middle of a storm (आंधी) right now. Everyone is cutting back. Even the studio that gave us those amazing, creepy visuals in Nope and Get Out isn’t immune.
We love their vibe. It’s dark. It’s moody. The high-contrast aesthetic they use is like no one else. As art grads, we always look for that specific visual punch they bring to the screen. We hope they keep that magic alive despite the smaller team.
This is part of a bigger trend in the business. For example, the FCC is looking very closely at the Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Big companies are shifting all over the place.
On a lighter note, we just saw Randy Jackson back with his American Idol friends. It’s nice to see some familiar faces again during all this change.
If you aren’t going to the movies for horror, maybe you’ll go for a show. AMC is starting to show live concerts from Paris Hilton and Bebe Rexha in theaters. It’s a whole new way to use the big screen.
Our Take
It’s a tough time for creators. We worry when the people who help build stories are let go. Monkeypaw has a very specific cool factor that we adore. Their movies always look like a painting come to life. We hope they stay bold and keep making us jump in our seats.
