Finally, some news about one of our favorite directors! We just saw the scoop on Jia Zhangke’s next big project. And oh boy, it’s a road movie! Starring the incredible Zhao Tao, of course.
It’s called ‘Mamma Dunhuang.’ Sounds like a journey, doesn’t it? The film follows a woman driving from Dunhuang. That’s way out in western China, near Central Asia. Imagine the dusty roads. The vast, open skies!
Dunhuang has such a cool vibe. Think ancient Silk Road stories. Beautiful desert colors. The aesthetic possibilities for this movie are huge. We can already picture the stunning shots.
Here’s the best part: Jia Zhangke is totally ruling out AI in production. Seriously. Real humans, real creativity. We love that! He wants to keep it real. No AI magic tricks. It’s about preserving a certain feel, a certain vision. It makes us think about unique paths people take, even when things get tough. He’s all set to dive into location scouting and production design. Once the Pingyao film festival wraps on September 30th, it’s full steam ahead. Busy, busy!
