  • What’s new with the Easterseals DARCYS?
  • Who won big?
  • Why this matters to us!

We just saw some seriously awesome news! The Easterseals Disability Arts & Culture Awards, or DARCYS, just celebrated their very first competitive winners this past Saturday. Huge! This isn’t just a small change.

It’s a whole new chapter for an awards program that’s been around since 1979. These awards used to be called the Media Access Awards. Now, it’s got a fresh vibe, co-produced by Easterseals Southern California and Film Independent.

They’re all about celebrating real-deal disability representation. Across film. Across TV. It’s about time these stories got the spotlight they deserve.

And the winners? Legendary Geri Jewell from ‘The Facts of Life’ was honored! Talk about a trailblazer. So cool to see her recognized.

Also taking home awards were the powerful series ‘The Pitt’ and the PBS docuseries ‘Renegades’. You can almost feel the passion and realness bursting from the screen in those shows. This kind of authentic storytelling? It creates a truly beautiful aesthetic for all of us.

These DARCYS are here to make sure more and more of these amazing stories get seen. More real people. More authentic voices. It’s what we need.

Our Take

We are absolutely here for this! Giving these incredible stories, artists, and shows a major platform? Yes, please. This is how we get a truer, more vibrant picture of the world on our screens. It’s about time the artistic eye focused on genuine representation. We love to see it!
