Oh boy, we just saw some news that gave us a bit of a heavy feeling. Like a muted film scene. You know Jafar Panahi, the incredible filmmaker who won a Palme d’Or? Well, his one-year prison sentence just got upheld by a court in Tehran.
Remember back in December? He was sentenced then, without even being there. In absentia, they called it. The charges? Engaging in what they termed ‘propaganda activities’ against the Iranian state. It sounds pretty serious.
His lawyer, Mostafa Nili, just told everyone that the court rejected his appeal. No changes. It feels like such a stark, almost black-and-white decision against someone known for bringing so much color to the screen with his art.

Here at BuzzMedia, this whole situation with Jafar Panahi really makes us pause. It’s tough when an artist, someone who tells stories and brings different perspectives to life, faces something like this. A whole year. For creative expression.
It’s heavy, really. A real downer. We’re usually buzzing about things like the latest F1 race with Lewis Hamilton or what’s happening with Isack Hadjar, or the RRB NTPC results. Even what Pawan Singh is up to! But some news just hits different.
