Eleven’s Pink Dress is Moving to the Smithsonian
- Eleven’s iconic pink dress is going to a museum
- How Stranger Things changed Netflix forever
- The Duffer Brothers make a historic donation
We just saw some news that made us do a double-take. Remember Eleven’s dusty pink dress from Season 1? The one with the little white collar? It is officially going to a museum. The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy just donated it to the Smithsonian. Yes, that Smithsonian!
Stranger Things has always been special. It was the first show Netflix really owned. It became a global hit overnight. People everywhere started wearing the merch. Now, the show is literally part of American history. Wow.
As art graduates, we are obsessed with the vibe of this costume. The aesthetic is so 1980s. That pale, muted pink against the dark woods of Hawkins was a stroke of genius. It feels nostalgic and sweet but also a bit sad. It’s perfect visual storytelling. It reminds us of finding great pieces at the Nordstrom Rack sale, but much more historic!
This show really started a licensing bonanza. Everyone wanted a piece of the Upside Down. While we wait for the final season, we can look at other winners. For example, this moody drama just won the top prize at Cannes and it is a must-watch.
Our Take
We think this is such a cool move. Pop culture is art. Seeing that pink fabric behind glass feels right. It captures a moment in time when we all fell in love with a girl and her Eggos. It’s way better than worrying about gossip. Speaking of which, Kim Soo Hyun is finally free from that rumor and we are so happy!
