Did the CBFC REALLY need to watch ‘Obsession’ before us?
- What’s Inside
- Why we’re talking about movie censorship
- What the CBFC is and does
- Our thoughts on who decides what we see
Okay, so we saw this headline: “I watched Obsession. The CBFC watched it too and decided what other adults could see.” And honestly? We paused.
This is about the Central Board of Film Certification, right? They’re the folks who look at movies and decide if they’re okay for everyone, or if they need cuts, or if they should be off-limits. They’re basically the movie gatekeepers.
When we think about movies, we think about the whole vibe. The colors. The way a scene makes you feel. The aesthetic. It’s art, after all. And the idea that someone else gets to judge what we, as adults, can experience? It feels a bit off.
Is it really their job to decide what adults should or shouldn’t watch? We’re grown-ups. We can handle a movie. We can form our own opinions.
Remember how we felt about the Euphoria finale? That show is intense, visually stunning, and definitely for mature audiences. We didn’t need someone telling us if we were allowed to watch it, did we?
Our Take
We just think it’s kind of wild that the CBFC felt the need to step in and decide for everyone else. It takes away a bit of our freedom to explore different stories and perspectives. We love movies for their raw, unfiltered feel sometimes, and censorship can really mess with that. It’s like someone deciding the color palette for an artist before they’ve even picked up a brush.
