Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn Finally Has a Release Date and We’re Obsessed

A dark and stylish animated city scene from the movie Ray Gunn
  • The official release date for Ray Gunn.
  • A look at the star-studded voice cast.
  • The cool, noir vibe of Metropia.

Finally, some news about Brad Bird. We have been waiting for Ray Gunn for what feels like forever. Netflix just dropped the big news at the Annecy Film Festival on Wednesday.

Get your popcorn ready for December 18, 2026. Yes. We have to wait a little while. But look at that cast! Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson are the stars.

They even got Tom Waits for a voice. It is such a cool, moody lineup. The story happens in a place called Metropia. It is a gigantic city with a very specific aesthetic.

We love the visual style already. It looks sharp. Very retro. It reminds us of why we love great animation. This is a huge win for Netflix, similar to the growth we are seeing at Berlin’s Series Fest.

Waiting until 2026 feels like a lot. It is almost as surprising as the way Shah Rukh Khan actually got his big break. But good things take time. We trust Brad Bird.

Our Take

We are totally here for this. Brad Bird is a legend for a reason. The noir vibe of Metropia looks stunning. It is very “Art School” cool. We think the wait will be worth it for these visuals alone. While you wait for 2026, check out Larry David’s new show for a good laugh.
