Blumhouse Television Adapting Shusuke Shizukui’s Japanese Novel ‘Sparks’ For TV

A dark silhouette of a man looking through a window into a brightly lit suburban home.
  • Blumhouse’s spooky new project.
  • A plot involving a judge and a suspect.
  • The team behind the adaptation.

We just saw some news that gave us actual goosebumps. Blumhouse Television is bringing a Japanese hit to our screens. They just grabbed the rights to Sparks. It is a novel by Shusuke Shizukui that is famous for being terrifying.

The story is wild. Picture this. A judge lets a murder suspect go free. Then, that same suspect moves in right next door to the judge. Talk about awkward. It is the ultimate bad neighbor story. Scary. Tense. Way too close for comfort.

Krystal Houghton Ziv is writing the pilot. She worked on The Purge. She knows how to build fear. We are expecting a very specific visual vibe here. Think deep shadows. Cold, sterile kitchens. The kind of aesthetic that makes a sunny afternoon feel dangerous.

While we wait for this nightmare to drop, we are still tracking everything we know about Ted Lasso Season 4. It is definitely more cheerful than a murder suspect moving in next door. If you want more tension, check out Greta Lee’s new sci-fi thriller coming to Netflix very soon.

Speaking of survivors, we were so happy to hear that Sam Neill is cancer free. It is great to have some bright news. Especially when the rest of our watchlist is filled with psychological thrillers.

Our Take

We think this is a genius move. Japanese thrillers have a way of getting under your skin. They feel different. Blumhouse is the king of high-tension horror. Combining them is a massive win. We can’t wait to see the psychological games begin.
