We just saw the latest box office numbers. Honestly? Mario is still the king of the world. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is sitting at number one with $30 million this weekend.
That is a lot of power-up stars. It has already made almost $350 million in the US. Kids are clearly dragging their parents to the theater for those bright, neon visuals.
Then there is Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. It earned about $13 million. It feels a bit slow compared to our favorite plumber. But hey, it is hard to beat a movie that looks like a candy shop on screen.
The vibe in theaters is wild right now. Everyone wants that colorful, happy aesthetic that Nintendo brings. Meanwhile, the dark and dusty look of the desert just isn’t hitting the same.

We think Mario is winning because it feels like a vacation for your eyes. The colors pop. It makes you feel like a kid again. The Mummy looks cool, but people want to smile right now. Plus, who doesn’t love a talking mushroom?
