Mishima Yukiko Just Took a COMPLETELY New Turn at Tokyo Film Fest! Guess What?
- Mishima Yukiko’s big new movie is here!
- Why this film is a HUGE surprise for fans.
- We’re breaking down the fresh vibe and what to expect.
You won’t believe what we just heard! Mishima Yukiko, the director who usually gives us those deep, sometimes dark, relationship dramas, is back. And she’s taken a turn. A big one!
Remember her amazing 2017 film, “Dear Etranger”? It grabbed so many awards. We thought we knew her style. Intense. Real. But her latest, “Two Cigarettes, Three Nights,” is totally different.
This new movie is making waves at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival. It’s even in competition! We hear it’s based on a 2014 novel by Chihaya Akane. And guess who stars? Matsuoka Mayu as a character named Kanna. She’s a picture book expert, apparently!
It sounds like the whole visual aesthetic of this film might be a fresh breeze. Maybe less of the moody, intimate tones we’re used to. More bright? A different kind of drama? We’re picturing a new color palette, something less somber, perhaps capturing the everyday magic of a picture book world.
We’re so curious to see this new direction. It takes guts to try something completely new when you’re known for a specific vibe. Mishima Yukiko is showing us she’s not afraid to play. That’s art!
Our Take
We think this is awesome news. It’s easy for artists to get stuck doing what they’re good at. But Mishima Yukiko is proving she can do more. We’re excited to see “Two Cigarettes, Three Nights” bring a new kind of story to the big screen. It feels fresh. And we love fresh.
