We just got some awesome news that’s going to make movie buffs happy! The Doha Film Institute (DFI), yep, the one from Qatar, just dropped their 2026 Spring Grants list. This is big news for filmmakers everywhere!
They’re backing a whopping 48 projects. And get this: they’re from 39 different countries! Talk about a global movie party. It’s exciting to see so much international talent getting a helping hand.
And guess who’s on that list? Mohamed Kordofani! He’s getting support for his second feature film, called About Love and September Laws. Remember his Khartoum-set drama, Goodbye Julia? That movie made history at Cannes in 2023. It was the first Sudanese film ever to make such a splash!
The vibe of his previous work was so powerful, a real visual feast of storytelling. We bet this new one will be just as captivating, maybe with a different color palette but the same raw honesty. It’s a style that really draws you in.
He’s not alone either. Theo Panagopoulos and Muayad Alayan are also big names getting these grants. It’s fantastic to see such diverse talent getting a boost from DFI. This whole scene reminds us of how exciting film festivals are, always finding new gems. Speaking of festivals, did you see what Venice is doing?
Our Take
This is just awesome for independent cinema. The DFI is really putting its money where its mouth is, supporting new voices from around the globe. It’s moments like these that make global storytelling stronger and bring fresh perspectives to our screens. We can’t wait to see what these artists create!
