  • A Hollywood “What If” moment!
  • John C. Reilly’s surprising advice to Leo.
  • From sinking ships to disco dreams.

You won’t believe what we just heard! John C. Reilly, the awesome actor we all love, recently spilled some tea on Ted Danson’s podcast, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name.”

Turns out, he tried to convince a young Leonardo DiCaprio to pass on a little movie called… wait for it… ‘Titanic’! Can you even imagine? Reilly’s exact words? He thought “No one’s going to give a s— about who’s on the boat.” Ouch!

Instead, Reilly was pushing Leo towards his good friend Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, ‘Boogie Nights.’ Reilly and Anderson were “thick as thieves” back then, and he clearly had a vision for Leo in that world.

Think about the vibe! ‘Titanic’ was all grand, sweeping romance, those cool blues and grays of the ocean, the elegant gowns. A classic, epic feel. ‘Boogie Nights,’ though? Totally different aesthetic. It’s that warm, gritty, vibrant 70s palette. Earthy browns, mustard yellows, a raw, energetic visual story about a very different kind of stardom.

What a choice to make, right? One path, a global phenomenon. The other, an indie darling that’s now a cult classic. We wonder what kind of career Leo would have had if he’d gone the ‘Boogie Nights’ route first.

Our Take

Honestly, Reilly had a point about the story of ‘Titanic’ being bigger than the actors. It’s a huge ship, a disaster, a grand love story! But come on, it shot Leo into superstardom! And ‘Boogie Nights’ was amazing without him. Sometimes, things just work out how they’re meant to.
