You won’t believe what we just heard! It’s about time, right?
Filmmaker Brydie O’Connor is bringing an incredible story to life. Her new film, “Barbara Forever,” celebrates Barbara Hammer. What a legend!
Barbara Hammer was a true pioneer. She started making films way back in the late 1960s. But for most of her life, this trailblazing lesbian artist felt invisible. Can you imagine?
Sadly, things haven’t totally changed. Brydie O’Connor says queer filmmakers today still face similar struggles. “I really felt her frustration at so many different points,” Brydie shared. It’s a tough road for many creative minds trying to get their vision out there.
But here’s the cool part: Brydie is really focused on bringing Barbara’s vibrant spirit to the screen. We hear the film captures a truly unique visual aesthetic. It’s all about celebrating a woman who did so much, even when the world wasn’t watching.
Even with wonderful partners, it’s not always easy. Thankfully, some big names are stepping up. Christine Vachon, a powerhouse in independent film, gave her full support to Brydie’s project. That’s a huge deal!
It makes us think about all the amazing new projects happening. Like when Riley Voelkel & Shiva Negar went ‘Above Average’ with their new cartoon! It’s inspiring to see creators pushing boundaries.
Our Take
We think stories like Barbara Hammer’s are so important. Her films pushed boundaries. They challenged ideas. And to know that Brydie O’Connor is helping her work shine “forever” is just… awesome. It shows us we need to keep supporting diverse voices in film. Every story deserves to be seen. And heard. Period.
