Two Big Wins for Chinese Films at Pingyao! And a Father-Son Duo Takes the Cake!

A golden award statue with a film reel base.
  • “Final Payment” grabs best film AND best actor!
  • A father-son duo wins big.
  • “Zoom In, Zoom Out” also gets two awards!
  • “Congo Boy” gets a shout-out too.

Finally, some news about movies that makes us smile! The Pingyao Film Festival just wrapped up in China. And guess what? Some truly cool flicks won big.

Niu Niu’s “Final Payment” just made a huge splash. It scooped up the Fei Mu Award for best film! And even cooler? Niu Niu’s dad, Niu Jianrong, won Best Actor in it. How cool is that – a father-son win! We bet the film has this raw, earthy visual style, really drawing you into the heart of its world. Speaking of family making movies, remember when Sofia Coppola had some feelings about her mom’s ‘Marie Antoinette’ movie? Family connections in film are always interesting!

Then there’s Dong Jie’s “Zoom In, Zoom Out.” This one also picked up two major awards. We can just picture the dynamic camera work, pulling you right into the story. The whole aesthetic feels fresh and real. Always a win for indie films!

Oh, and another shout-out! “Congo Boy” snagged the Rossellini Prize. It’s awesome to see global stories shining bright.

Our Take

We just love seeing new voices get recognized. Films like these, from people like Niu Niu and Dong Jie, really show what indie cinema can do. It’s about stories that stick with you. The kind you talk about later. Big congrats to all the winners!
