Sir Kenneth, the legend himself, was there to accept a huge honor. It was the festival’s very first Outstanding Contribution to Cinema award. What an achievement!
He got the award from festival director Paul Ridd. And what did he do first? He immediately made a joke! He said he’d break it into little pieces. So funny.
Then, he quickly added, “Actually, I wouldn’t.” He told the audience he’d give those pieces to them. “And I’m not just being sappy,” he insisted. The whole vibe in the room just felt so warm and appreciative.
But the real surprise came when he talked about his action-comedy, ‘Mayday’. He actually thought Zach Galifianakis should play his part! Can you even imagine that casting?
He was quick to say he was “very pleased they asked me” instead. What a delightful dose of humor from such a respected figure. It just shows his amazing, down-to-earth side!
